probable grain bag - stencilled with Merrill & Smith According to Walton's Vermont Register Merrill & Smith were in business from 1896-1912 or '13. The Merrill could be Arthur Henry Merrill. The store was in the newly built business complex erected after the 1889 fire that destroyed the Barstow Block. The store was known as A. H. Merrill by 1914. Smith probably joined Willey in the Willey & Smith business that operated at the corner of Main St. and Mechanic (Beaver Meadow) Rd. |
