Two photos - one of them being half of one that is like the full one - of the corner of Mechanic and Main Streets - from left to right the Barstow Block (John Wright's 1820s brick store), Hotel Norwich owned by the Bowles family, and the James Currier House. Fire broke out in the brick store and consumed all the buildings in 1889. The whole picture that wasn't scanned shows a bit of the house to the left of the store and trees along Main St. On the back of the photo is "Property of L. Johnson." Don't know who that is. |
