According in a note slipped into the book, this is the only surviving account book of Pierce Burton. The problem is that Pierce Burton died in 1844 and the only year recorded in the book is 1854. Much of the book was reused as a scrapbook. Mildred Hutchinson, who was born in the Pierce Burton House "said in her old age that there had been a pile of them in the attic and she had used them to press flowers in as a child." |
